Among the Enemy (A Shadow Children Book, Sixth) by Peterson, Haddix Margaret

  • This was first of all a GREAT book. It is the 6th book of the Shadow Children series. Way back they did NOT allow 3rd children. That is because there was a very low food shortage. There are three children and they get captured by the Population Police in the middle of the night from their school. When they were riding in the back of the truck, they were all chained up, but Matthias got out of the chains. He found a hole in the bottom of the truck and found a loose skrew. He tried to get them out but it was no help. Finally he took the skrew and poped the tire, it didn’t do any good at first. Later on, the truck ran into a tree. At first Matthias and Percy couldn’t find Alia. Mattias found what he thought was sap from the tree but it was actually blood. Thankfully, Matthias found Alia but she was covered in blood and unconscious. They thought up a plan to run into the trees and hide. After awile Percy went to go looking for a place to sleep when Matthias and unconscious Alia heard the first gun shot. Matthias ran to a log nearby and stayed as quiet as he possibly could. Finally, he heard Percy’s cry but when he was close to him he saw Percy was shot. He later saw that their were Population Police officers who were shooting at the rebals inside the little cabin. They were fighting back but they were all shot. Later the Population Police shot into the house and took 7 people out of the house and made a sign that said, REBALS. Later when he was sure that the Population Police were gone, he draged Percy and Alia down the hill to the house. He crept inside and was feeling around the floor and there was a latch. He opened it and found a secret room. There were cots and food for all of them. He laid Percy and Alia down on the cots and tried to feed them something but Percy was so tired and Alia was in and out of consciousness. Finally he needed to get some medicine for them. He crept out and ran all the way to Mr. Talbot’s house. He rested for awhile and he later went with Mrs. Talbot in her car and drove to the house. Thankfully, they got there safe but, Percy and Alia were gone!

  • The House on the Gulf by Margaret Peterson Haddix

  • This awesome and stomach turning was great! Britt, Bran and their Mother moved to Florida for the summer to take time for their loving mother to go to college, which was a fantasy of hers. The only thing holding her back was the money. Bran, "Brandon" Britt’s brother found a single mother scholarship for her on the internet. They went to Florida and her brother found the Marcus’s. They were going to stay at their house. Marcus’s were old people and they went to a house in New York for the summer. When they got to Florida Bran took Britt to the Marcus’s house but called them the Maruiqes. Bran got really nervous when Mr."Marquies" came to talk to him because he thought they were gone to New York. Bran shooed Britt away and made her get the bikes away from the house. When they finally get to move in there were almost no family pictures or anything. When Britt was looking at the drinking glasses and the memories of the little speckes on them he quickly got a box and stored them away and was acting all wierd all of a sudden.
